Burma Cyclone Donors Appreciation Event - Toronto

Ottawa (Sept. 25, 08) - ‘Burma Cyclone Donors Appreciation’ event is to hold on this Sunday September 28, 2008 at Toronto Burmese Buddhist Temple . Burma Cyclone Relief Committee, comprised of a number of Burma support groups, collected approximately $200,000 of donations from Burmese-Canadians and Burma supporters in Canada and channeled it to hundreds of thousands of cyclone victims in Burma through the International Buddhist Monks Organizations (IBMO) and other relief organizations in Burma .

The Government of Canada has so far provided a total of $25.6 million for cyclone relief in Burma and Canadian civil society organizations raised $11.6 million from public. Provincial and territory governments also donated in separate, and labor unions and faith groups also extended their generosities, amounting in millions of dollars. As the whole country, Canada made the approximate contribution of $40 million for cyclone relief efforts in Burma .
