Indian Ocean Earthquake: Magnitude 7.5 Strikes Nicobar Islands By JoAnne Thomas

Developing :India’s Nicobar Islands were struck by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake at
1:26 a.m. local time.A Tsunami advisory has been issued by the U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center for India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand and Malaysia.There are no damage or injury reports available at this time.
Indian Ocean Earthquake: Magnitude 7.5 Strikes Nicobar Islands

The epicenter of the quake was roughly 95 miles west of Mohean and over 1700 miles SE of New Delhi.
The temblor was 710 miles SW of Bangkok and a mere 275 miles W-NW of Banda Aceh in Indonesia’s Sumatra, which has seen more than it’s share of dangerous quakes.
Today’s earthquake had a depth of 21.7 miles and was intitially reported as a 7.7 magnitude.

There are reports the quake was felt as far away as Chennai, located on the Indian mainland.

Indonesia’s Sumatra was devastated by a 9.1 magnitude earthquake on December 26, 2004. An estimated 226,000 souls lost their lives in the hours that followed.

I know I am repeating myself, but the alarming frequency of these earthquakes troubles me greatly!

One can’t help but wonder what in the world is causing these constant earthquakes.
